Grooming
Weekly brushing; monitor ears and seasonal shedding.
Hound Medium adult scale
Merry, sociable and endlessly curious, Beagles are pack hounds that usually relish company and a good adventure. Their remarkable sense of smell makes sniffing games and varied walks especially rewarding. Once an interesting scent appears it may outrank recall, so patient training and secure exercise areas matter.
France
Keep the individual dog’s health, behaviour and needs ahead of a breed label. The shared size and activity ranges below are planning guides, not French legal standards.
Plan controlled scent exploration and secure recall practice. An appealing scent is not a reason to ignore wildlife protection or lead restrictions.
Check French acquisition and identification requirements separately from pedigree paperwork. For a dog whose legal category is uncertain, ask a vet and the relevant authority before buying, adopting or travelling.

At a glance
Typical adult pet: Roughly 9–14 kg · Exercise: Around 1–1½ hours. These are broad planning ranges, not targets or guarantees.
Sociable, scent-led and sometimes vocal; secure outdoor management is important.

Around 1–1½ hours. Age, fitness, health, weather and the quality of enrichment can change what an individual dog needs.
Plan particularly for scent work, company and secure boundaries.
Use kind, reward-based training and build skills gradually. Breed can suggest inherited tendencies; it cannot determine a dog’s personality.
Real-world size
Roughly 9–14 kg is a rounded planning range for ordinary adult pets. RKC show standard: 33–40 cm at the shoulder. Neither figure decides whether an individual dog is healthy or proves pedigree. A veterinary body-condition assessment is more useful than aiming for a number alone.
Ask for the health tests relevant to both parents and verify results independently. Avoid exaggerated features that compromise breathing, movement, eyes, skin or ordinary activity. A responsible breeder or rescue should welcome careful questions.
Children, other animals, time alone and first-time ownership cannot be decided by breed label alone. Temperament, early experience, health, training, management and the household all matter.
