Pastoral Medium adult scale
Brilliant, responsive and deeply engaged with their people, Border Collies can be wonderfully rewarding partners for active homes. They tend to thrive when given purposeful training, problem-solving and varied outlets for their herding intelligence. Just as importantly, they may need patient help learning how to relax and switch off.
France
Keep the individual dog’s health, behaviour and needs ahead of a breed label. The shared size and activity ranges below are planning guides, not French legal standards.
Provide calm learning and rest as well as activity. Increasing exercise alone is not a solution to persistent distress or reactivity; ask a vet for appropriate help.
Check French acquisition and identification requirements separately from pedigree paperwork. For a dog whose legal category is uncertain, ask a vet and the relevant authority before buying, adopting or travelling.

Use kind, reward-based training and build skills gradually. Breed can suggest inherited tendencies; it cannot determine a dog’s personality.
Real-world size
Roughly 12–22 kg is a rounded planning range for ordinary adult pets. RKC show standard: around 53 cm; females slightly less. Neither figure decides whether an individual dog is healthy or proves pedigree. A veterinary body-condition assessment is more useful than aiming for a number alone.
Ask for the health tests relevant to both parents and verify results independently. Avoid exaggerated features that compromise breathing, movement, eyes, skin or ordinary activity. A responsible breeder or rescue should welcome careful questions.
Children, other animals, time alone and first-time ownership cannot be decided by breed label alone. Temperament, early experience, health, training, management and the household all matter.
