Emergency and poison help
Urgent veterinary help
For collapse, seizures, breathing difficulty or serious injury, contact an emergency veterinary practice immediately. Call before travelling to confirm that it can receive your dog. We have not verified a local clinic directory or individual opening hours.
Suspected poisoning: Pet Poison Helpline +1 855 764 7661. The operator states 24-hour coverage in the USA and Canada and a US$89 incident fee, including follow-up. Availability and fee are operator-stated, checked 19 September 2026. Do not induce vomiting or give home antidotes unless a veterinary professional directs you.

Borders, documents and vaccinations
Use the CFIA pet-import checker with the dog’s age, country of departure, purpose and whether the owner accompanies it. Personal pets, assistance dogs and commercial movements follow different paths. Adoption, fostering and breeding can count as commercial. The exact document outcome for your circumstances is not validated here. Check the return journey separately.
A veterinary discussion should cover vaccination and parasite prevention for the individual dog, season and itinerary. A treatment that is advisable is not automatically a border requirement. This page does not prescribe vaccines, medicines or doses.

Build a journey checklistOutdoors and everyday safety
At Parks Canada places, dogs must be controlled on a lead no longer than 3 metres; check exclusions and closures. This is a Parks Canada rule, not a rule for every Canadian public space.
Practical planning advice: check local weather, smoke and trail closures; carry water, arrange breaks and prevent wildlife encounters. Adapt activity to your dog with your vet. Do not leave a dog in a vehicle where temperature or ventilation could endanger it. No universal temperature or exercise threshold is claimed.

Transport and local services: remaining checks
Before paying, ask the actual operating airline, ferry, coach or bus company about the exact route, dog size, carrier, assistance-dog arrangements, fees, breaks and restrictions. We have not yet verified a North American operator comparison or inspected enclosed dog fields. Cabin acceptance and border permission are separate decisions. For cars, use a suitable secured carrier or restraint following its instructions; confirm local legal duties with the relevant authority.
