Antifreeze exposure: act immediately
Do not wait for signs or use a dose calculation to decide whether to seek help.
Why this is urgent
Ethylene-glycol antifreeze can cause severe kidney injury and early signs may be subtle. Prompt professional treatment matters. Products vary, so take the label, but never assume an unknown product is safe. Small exposures can be dangerous.
Prevent access
Keep vehicle fluids locked away, inspect leaks and clear spills with dogs excluded. Prevent drinking from puddles around vehicles/workshops. “Pet-friendly” marketing does not establish that ingestion is harmless.
Call now
Contact an emergency vet immediately after suspected licking/drinking, even if your dog seems well. State the product, possible amount and time. Do not wait for vomiting or kidney symptoms and do not give alcohol, salt or other household treatments. Emergency veterinary response.
