Owner resilience and home health

Batteries, vapes and chewed electronics

Treat damaged or swallowed batteries and nicotine products as urgent hazards.

Recognise combined risks

Button batteries can cause serious local injury; damaged battery contents can irritate/burn, and any swallowed battery can obstruct the gut. Lithium battery packs and damaged devices also create injury/fire risks. Vapes contain batteries and may contain toxic nicotine liquid.

Prevent access

Secure remotes, hearing-aid/button cells, chargers and vape devices/liquids. Check battery compartments and collect loose cells immediately. Keep discarded devices in closed storage, and do not handle a hot or damaged pack unsafely.

Call immediately

Contact the veterinarian for any chewed/swallowed battery or possible vape-liquid exposure, even if the dog appears normal. Keep device/packaging information or a safe photo. Do not induce vomiting, reach deep into the mouth or attempt home removal. Existing swallowed-object guidance.
