Owner resilience and home health

Garage, shed and workshop hazards

Keep chemicals, pest products and sharp equipment securely separated from dogs.

Audit storage and spills

Antifreeze, screenwash, fuels, oils, paints, solvents, pesticides and fertilisers have different toxic effects. Secure original labelled containers, clear spills safely and stop dogs entering work areas. Never leave chemicals in food/drink containers.

Pest control and physical injury

Rodent products and other pesticides can pose poisoning risks; location in a bait box does not make them harmless if accessed. Keep tools, blades, nails, fishing tackle and packaging away. Ask a qualified pest professional about safe management around pets rather than assuming a product is dog-safe.

Exposure needs assessment

Call a vet immediately with the exact substance or object and time. Do not apply solvents to fur or use improvised remedies. Antifreeze is a particular emergency. Antifreeze warning · Rats and safe management.
