Veterinary medicine errors and accidental access

Prevent overdoses, wrong-pet doses and parasite-product mistakes.

Make each dose deliberate

Store medicines securely and identify the dog, product and current label before giving it. A dog may eat flavoured tablets as treats. Use one administrator and a dose log; keep medicines in labelled original packaging and away from children.

Check product suitability

Never share another pet’s prescription or apply a product intended for a different species. Parasite products cover different organisms and may not be compatible in combination. Check weight, formulation and all existing treatments with the veterinarian or authorised supplier.

An error needs prompt advice

For a possible overdose, wrong dog/product or uncertain dose, contact the practice immediately with the label and timing. Do not double, repeat or counteract it yourself. Breathing difficulty, collapse or seizures requires emergency care. Individual parasite planning.

Owner information, not diagnosis, an individual dose or personal legal advice. Follow the treating veterinary team’s plan. Legal, medicine-supply and poison-service statements apply only to the labelled jurisdiction; general care principles do not establish local rules.
