Owner resilience and home health

Living with heart disease

Adapt daily activity and track observations agreed with the veterinary team.

Follow the individual plan

Heart disease includes several conditions and stages; some do not need immediate medicine. Use the diagnosed dog’s medication and follow-up plan, not another dog’s routine. Agree suitable activity, weight and diet and report reduced stamina or appetite.

Observe breathing as instructed

Your vet may ask for sleeping/resting respiratory observations. Ask them to show the method and give this dog’s baseline and action threshold; record trends without diagnosing from a single count. A count while panting or excited is unsuitable for this purpose. No number gives online clearance for visible symptoms.

Know when to escalate

Laboured breathing, collapse or marked deterioration needs emergency care. New cough, reduced exercise tolerance, appetite or energy changes need practice advice. Do not increase heart medicines or restrict water on your own. Health diary · Senior care.
