Owner resilience and home health

Long-term medication management

Coordinate refills, monitoring, travel and safe administration across carers.

Keep one current list

Record names, formulations, label instructions, purposes as explained by the vet, storage, last review and responsible practice. Include supplements and multiple medicines. Review interactions with the team rather than assuming separate prescriptions are compatible.

Plan ahead

Check remaining supply and order within the practice’s lead time. Book required examinations/blood tests before repeats run out. For travel, confirm transport/storage and destination medicine rules; carry original packaging and authorised documentation. Never borrow another animal’s supply.

Ask about errors and reactions

Agree missed-dose and vomited-dose advice for each medicine. Do not double or abruptly stop prescribed treatment without direction. Contact the team about side effects or difficulty giving it; severe reactions need urgent care. Prescriptions · Carer handover.

Evidence and review

Owner information, not diagnosis, an individual dose or personal legal advice. Follow the treating veterinary team’s plan. Legal, medicine-supply and poison-service statements apply only to the labelled jurisdiction; general care principles do not establish local rules.
