Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales) — Moving Abroad with Your Dog
Import pathway — confirm your origin
Baseline shown: your own dogs, no ownership transfer, owner travelling with/within five days, up to five animals, direct route and verified listed/low-risk history. This table does not determine eligibility.
Mandatory for the ordinary listed-country→GB pathway: chip, valid rabies cover, accepted travel document, declaration and approved route where required. EU departures have passport/AHC/GB certificate options; US/Canada departures normally use a GB pet health certificate. Check dog-type restrictions.
| Requirement | Status for the stated baseline |
|---|---|
| Identification, valid rabies cover and the accepted travel document | Mandatory |
| Titre test, permits, endorsement, quarantine and customs | Conditional — verify the actual route |
| Local vet, insurance and welfare preparation | Recommended preparation |
Routine titre testing and quarantine are not requirements of the compliant direct GB→named-EU or listed-country→GB baseline. They may become relevant with other histories or non-compliance. Permits and customs declarations depend on classification and territory; confirm them rather than assuming an exemption.
Destination notes and restrictions
EU, US and Canadian departures are covered as initial priorities, subject to history and non-commercial conditions. US/Canadian rabies certificates alone are not GB pet health certificates. Obtain current destination certification through the departure country’s official process, including any required endorsement.
After arrival: national and local steps
Great Britain means England, Scotland and Wales. Check dog-type prohibitions before import, then update an appropriate UK microchip database and arrange local veterinary care. Housing, public-space rules and licensing differ across the UK; Northern Ireland has its own pathway and dog licensing.
