Netherlands — Moving Abroad with Your Dog
Import pathway — confirm your origin
Entry summary below starts with a direct GB departure; EU→EU uses a valid accepted passport or onward-entry certificate instead. Other origins need official verification.
Mandatory for the ordinary GB→EU pathway: valid identification, rabies cover and an AHC with the required declaration. Use a designated entry point and current certificate model. GB-resident owners cannot rely on an EU passport. Titre testing is not routine for direct GB departures meeting the listed-country conditions.
| Requirement | Status for the stated baseline |
|---|---|
| Identification, valid rabies cover and the accepted travel document | Mandatory |
| Titre test, permits, endorsement, quarantine and customs | Conditional — verify the actual route |
| Local vet, insurance and welfare preparation | Recommended preparation |
Routine titre testing and quarantine are not requirements of the compliant direct GB→named-EU or listed-country→GB baseline. They may become relevant with other histories or non-compliance. Permits and customs declarations depend on classification and territory; confirm them rather than assuming an exemption.
Destination notes and restrictions
The Netherlands requires an imported dog to be registered within two weeks of arrival. Arrange a Dutch vet and ask about the UBN (unique registration number), import notification and passport process before moving. An existing foreign chip does not complete Dutch registration.
After arrival: national and local steps
Check municipal dog tax, permitted walking areas and local leash rules. Confirm housing consent and contact details in the designated database. Use NVWA for entry questions; do not treat the local registration step as an alternative to border compliance.
