Staffie-cross siblings Jack and Poppy recovered in RSPCA care after being found severely underweight and unwell. Veterinary treatment, careful rehabilitation and patient adopters helped each dog settle into a loving home. Eight months after rehoming, the pair returned to the centre and recognised one another during an affectionate reunion.
Recovery before rehoming
The RSPCA reports that the siblings were rehabilitated at Gonsal Farm Animal Centre in Shropshire. They received veterinary care for skin disease, with additional eye treatment for Poppy. Both regained weight before moving to separate adoptive homes.
A reunion after a difficult start
Jack joined his family in November 2023; Poppy followed in January 2024. The charity describes their reunion eight months after rehoming. The report was published on 6 October 2026, but the adoptions themselves were earlier events.
Why it matters
This is an example of recovery supported by veterinary care and adopters. It does not establish that every rescued dog will recover at the same pace.
For prospective adopters
Ask the rescue team about medical history, introductions to existing dogs and support after adoption. Poppy’s family received help with settling and being left alone. Plan around the individual dog rather than a fixed timetable.
