Supporting your dog at home

Keep care familiar, calm and responsive to your dog.

Comfort and routine

Offer a comfortable resting place away from unwanted attention, normal access to water and familiar feeding routines. Allow extra rest and gentle activity according to her comfort. Try short sniffing games or familiar enrichment; reduce stressful dog interactions. A significant change in eating, drinking or energy needs veterinary advice.

Hygiene and season pants

Use washable bedding and clean soiled areas gently; do not insert products or use internal washes. If she tolerates season pants, follow the product instructions, check fit and skin, change wet pads promptly and remove for toileting and regular skin checks. Stop if they rub, distress her or restrict movement. Pants only manage discharge: they do not prevent mating and are not contraception.

Do not predict fertile days

A tracker cannot determine fertility, establish a safe mating date or replace veterinary assessment. Do not use bleeding, its cessation or calendar estimates to decide that mating is safe.
