Pain, discomfort and behaviour

Significant pain is not something to dismiss as a normal season.

Does being in season hurt?

A normal season is not generally considered painful, although some dogs seem unsettled or mildly uncomfortable. Canine seasons are not human periods; do not assume menstrual cramps. Restlessness, clinginess, sensitivity, or modest appetite and activity changes can accompany hormonal changes, but they cannot prove the cause.

Notice pain and illness

Crying, guarding the abdomen, difficulty settling, reluctance to move or a strong reaction to ordinary touch warrants veterinary advice. Severe pain, marked lethargy or deterioration needs immediate contact. Do not give human painkillers or leftover medicines. Let her choose quiet space; avoid forced handling and punishment.

Do not predict fertile days

A tracker cannot determine fertility, establish a safe mating date or replace veterinary assessment. Do not use bleeding, its cessation or calendar estimates to decide that mating is safe.
