Recognising the signs
Notice changes without trying to diagnose a season from one sign.
An observation checklist
Look for vulval swelling, bloody or changing discharge, increased licking, more frequent urination, restlessness, altered sociability and unusual interest from male dogs. Note what changed and when. These observations are not a diagnostic test.
Subtle signs
Some dogs clean away discharge or show very little blood. No obvious bleeding does not exclude a season. Do not introduce a male dog to “test” her. Painful urination, bad-smelling discharge or feeling unwell may have another cause: contact the practice.
Observation checklist — not a diagnosis

Do not predict fertile days
A tracker cannot determine fertility, establish a safe mating date or replace veterinary assessment. Do not use bleeding, its cessation or calendar estimates to decide that mating is safe.
